Neighbourhood Plan approved at Referendum

At the Referendum held on 2 May 2019, residents approved the Wivenhoe Neighbourhood Plan by 2,771 votes FOR and 342 AGAINST.

The Plan will now be ‘made’ by CBC, that is it will become part of the Local Development Plan, having the same status and weight as CBC’s own development policies when it comes to deciding planning applications in Wivenhoe.

Thank you to all who voted for the Plan, and a special Thank You to the many local volunteers who, since 2014, have helped with various aspects of the work needed to get it to Referendum stage.

After this post, no further updates will be made on this website.

  1. Congratulations to all who worked so hard to bring the Local Plan to this point in time and to this resounding success. Well done to all, especially Marika and Peter. You will have my support in the Council Chamber.

  2. Today I will be proposing adoption of the Wivenhoe Neighbourhood Plan at the Annual Meeting of Colchester Borough Council. This is such a strategically important document and a testament to the hard work of so many volunteers and to the people of Wivenhoe who have engaged in this process. Well Done

  3. This evening as a Councillor for Wivenhoe and Chair of WTC planning I will be representing Wivenhoe Town Council regarding an application from Taylor Wimpey for the development of 120 dwellings at the rear of Broadfields. There are a number of areas to dispute and these will be spoken about by all 3 ward councillors. The main point of concern is that TW plans to build outside of the agreed area written in to the Wivenhoe Town Plan. They have options to not have to do this and this will be the first real opportunity for CBC planning committee to support Wivenhoe’s Town Plan that CBC adopted into their own local plan.
Let’s hope they do the right thing.
